We were pleased to be able to help with concepts for site development-water, sewer and drainage-for the Nang Rong project, and were able to visit the site in November 2008. Velma got to be Grandma for a Thai baby-a long story there-and we were able to visit the first (rental) home for girls and get to know the house parents. Visiting and working alongside another long term volunteer was most enjoyable.

Site work was stopped by torrential rains but we were able to field check, see flooding problems first hand, and meet with or coordinate with the people who will be involved during construction.

As a bonus trip on the weekend we forded flooded roads to get to thousand plus year old ruins near Nang Rong-not far from similar, grander ruins of the same era across the border at Angkor Wat in Cambodia. We enjoyed interesting Thai food, from tourist grade at nice restaurants to eating at the local street stands.

Two days were spent exploring Bangkok on our own, using the sky train to a huge new mall, and Chao Phraya River for a ferry ride to the Grand Palace, learning to talk sign language real fast to keep up with the local entrepreneurs. We went in and out through the beautiful new Bangkok airport. We enjoyed the visit and were blessed to be working with the good people of Thailand.
